Who needs to
rotate PDFs?
Incorrect page orientation is one of the most common issues with PDFs, especially those created from scanned or photographed documents.
01
Scanned documents
Scanners and multifunction printers often output pages in the wrong orientation, especially when scanning from an automatic document feeder. Fix an entire scanned batch in one step.
02
Phone and camera photos
Documents photographed with a phone or camera frequently come out rotated 90 degrees due to how the phone was held. Correct the orientation before sharing or archiving.
03
Mixed-orientation reports
Annual reports, technical documents, and research papers often mix portrait and landscape pages. Charts and tables are landscape, body text is portrait. Correct individual pages without touching the rest.
04
Legal filings and submissions
Court filings, regulatory submissions, and official documents must be in the correct orientation to be accepted. Rotate pages before submitting to ensure the document is read correctly.
How PDF rotation works
Rotating a PDF page is a metadata change, not a visual re-render. PDF files store a rotation flag in each page's dictionary, a single value indicating whether the page should display at 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees. When PDFHaul rotates a page, it updates that flag. The actual page content (text, images, vectors) is not touched.
This is why rotating a PDF has no effect on quality. There is no re-encoding of images, no resampling, no lossy compression. A scanned document at 300 DPI remains at 300 DPI after rotation. Contrast this with rotating a JPEG image, where re-saving after rotation re-encodes the image and introduces quality loss. PDF rotation does not work that way.
PDFHaul lets you rotate all pages at once or specify individual pages. The page numbers you enter refer to the PDF's internal page order, which is the same order shown in any PDF viewer's page panel.
