Who converts
PDF to PowerPoint?

When a presentation arrives as a PDF, converting it back gives you full editing control over every slide.

01

Updating old presentations

Slide decks saved as PDF, including old printed decks that were scanned back in, can be converted back to PowerPoint for updates. OCR handles the scanned ones automatically, so you revise individual slides without rebuilding the deck.

02

Repurposing content from reports

Extract pages from a PDF report and turn them into presentation slides. Far faster than rebuilding charts and layouts manually in PowerPoint.

03

Training and educational material

Course material and training guides distributed as PDFs can be converted to editable slide decks for instructors who need to adapt content per session.

04

Client deliverables and pitches

Client-facing PDFs sent as final deliverables can be recovered as editable decks when the original source files are unavailable.

How PDF to PowerPoint conversion works

Each page of the PDF becomes a slide in the output .pptx file. For PDFs that were originally exported from PowerPoint, the conversion attempts to reconstruct editable text elements. For other PDFs (reports, brochures, design documents), text-based content extracts as editable text and genuinely image-based content (photographs, charts rendered as pictures, logos) is embedded as an image within the slide.

Scanned PDFs don't have a text layer at all: each page is a photograph of the slide, not machine-readable characters. PDFHaul detects this automatically and runs the page through OCR (optical character recognition) first, recognizing the actual words and rebuilding them as real slide text, before handing the result to the same conversion process used for any other PDF. This is included free, with no separate OCR fee or usage limit. Recognition is very accurate on normal printed text, but handwritten notes and very small or low-contrast fine print are more error-prone than the main body text, the same limitation that applies to PDF to Word.

Slide layouts and design themes from the original presentation are not recoverable from a PDF. When a PowerPoint file is exported to PDF, the design is flattened into fixed-position page content. Converting back to .pptx cannot reconstruct the template, master slides, or animation settings that existed before the PDF was created.

The output is .pptx, compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 and later, Google Slides, LibreOffice Impress, and Apple Keynote.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about converting PDFs to PowerPoint

Yes. Scanned and photographed PDFs are detected automatically and processed with OCR (optical character recognition) before conversion, so slide text comes through as real, editable text rather than an embedded picture of the page. This is included free, with no separate OCR fee or daily limit.
